Why I feel in love with Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades #1
E.L. James
Publication date: 26th May
My rating: 5 out of 5

When literature student Anastasia Steele is drafted to interview the successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey for her campus magazine, she finds him attractive, enigmatic and intimidating. Convinced their meeting went badly, she tries to put Grey out of her mind - until he happens to turn up at the out-of-town hardware store where she works part-time.
The unworldly, innocent Ana is shocked to realize she wants this man, and when he warns her to keep her distance it only makes her more desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her - but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success – his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving adoptive family – Grey is man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a passionate, physical and daring affair, Ana learns more about her own dark desires, as well as the Christian Grey hidden away from public scrutiny.
Can their relationship transcend physical passion? Will Ana find it in herself to submit to the self-indulgent Master? And if she does, will she still love what she finds?

Without a shadow of a doubt Fifty Shades of Grey is my best Kindle buy EVER! I'd seen it mentioned in a few on my wish list posts and after reading the blurb I just knew I had to "add to cart." I do love the occasional hot and steamy book but it needs to have a PLOT for me to really love it, endless sex scenes do get a bit boring after a while. I wouldn't describe Fifty Shades of Grey as erotica I thought it was more of a romance with a hint of delicious spice.

Since finishing Fifty Shades I read the sequel Fifty Shades Darker and then went back to re-read Fifty Shades again I COULD NOT not stop thinking about it. If you haven't read it this probably won't make much sense to you but I just wanted to highlight this book's AWESOMENESS!!!!!

Things I can't get out of my head after reading Fifty Shades:

1. Fifty himself. He's a bit of an alpha male (and we all know how much I appreciate an alpha male), he's a powerful multi gazillionaire, he's in his twenties and is never pictured with any trophy girlfriends at charity doo's. He prefers to keep his "relationships" behind closed doors- the doors of his playroom to be exact, where he is the master.

2. Grey ties. Seriously, never again will I be able to look at a grey tie without giggling to myself and daydreaming about Ana and Fifty at her graduation ceremony.

3. The contract. In particular Ana's horror at some of the things on the contract drawn up by Fifty. Exercising four days a week??? I loved Ana's snarky answer that she expects him to be keeping her well exercised anyway.

4. The email exchanges. God they made me laugh..

   From: Anastasia Steele
   Subject: Burning the Midnight Oil

   To: Christian Grey

   Sir
If you recall, I was going through the list when I was distracted and bedded by
   a passing control freak.
   Goodnight
   Ana

5. Steamy lift encounters. As Fifty himself said what is it about lifts??

6. Laters Baby. I can't stop saying it and no one knows what the hell I'm on about...

I could go on and on and on..... But I won't, just go buy it you will not regret it.

Obviously I will be having Fifty as my book boyfriend post this week so pop back later for some of my favourite quotes and probably some very yummy pictures.

Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey? Does it sound like your kind of book?
I'm desperate to know!

  1. Sorry to be a bit of a stalker, Lesley, but I can't stay away when you're discussing Fifty.:) If I had Christian as my first boyfriend like Ana (and "boyfriend" can't begin to describe the level of intensity and possession that is all Fifty) I would be ruined for all the other men. This was one of the best reads of 2011 for me. And I'll certainly be re-reading first two books before the third one comes out. I felt giddy and lightheaded after these books.

  2. LOL, what a great, gushing review! You make it sound so funny and now I want to read it. The reason why I don't read Eroticas are because of the endless sex scenes and no plot. But since there is one here, I think I'll go pick it up soon.:)

  3. I read this story back when it was a Twilight Fanfic (can you believe it was a Twilight Fanfic?!? I couldn't when I first read it!!) Anyhoo I loved it so much as a fanfic, I was over-the-moon when SnowQueens IceDragon a.k.a E L James announced it was being published!! I've re-read this and part 2 since they have been published and now I'm eagerly awaiting part 3
