Amanda Carlson interview and giveaway

I'm beyond excited to have Amanda Carlson author of the Jessica McClain series stopping by today. I really can't rave about this series enough, if you like action packed urban fantasy with a gutsy heroine then this is the series for you! I devoured the first book FULL BLOODED last year and immediately raced to Goodreads to find out when the next instalment was due out.

HOT BLOODED the second book in the series is released on the 23rd of April and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a review copy and LOVED it, you can check out my ever so slightly fan girlie review here.

So, to celebrate the release of HOT BLOODED into the wild Amanda has very generously agreed to answer some of my slightly random questions AND because I love the series sooooo much there's an easy little giveaway at the bottom of the post too. Enjoy!

What was the very first scene or character that came to you when you started writing the Jessica McClain series?

The first scene in FULL BLOODED, where Jessica is shifting into a wolf for the first time, was the first scene that came to me. Jessica jumped into my mind like a clip from a movie mid-shift and in agony. It was vivid and visceral and couldn’t get it out of my mind. I had to write the story just to see what happened next.

I pretty much loved Jess's character straight away she's just the kind of heroine I love- gutsy, brave and determined, is she based on anyone in particular?

No. But it’s good to see we share the same tastes in heroines! I wrote my favourite kind of lead: strong, smart, intelligent and snarky. I hope everyone enjoys her like we do.

How many books should we expect in the series and how far ahead do you need to plan when writing a series?

I’m not sure how many will be negotiated in the future, but there will be three for sure. I have a long term story arc in my mind, but each book is its own adventure and I love how they surprise me. That’s the very best part about writing.

HOT BLOODED hits the shelves on the 23rd of April, do you read reviews?

I really try not to. I don’t go to goodreads at all, but it’s hard to stay off amazon. They have all the juicy rankings and data that make it hard for authors to stay away. Reviews are tough for authors. We always appreciate good feedback, whether someone loved the book or not, but they don’t typically change the way we go about doing things. We all are just trying to write the best story we can, and will continue that regardless of the reviews.

What have you read recently that you could recommend to us and do you ever get book envy where you wish you had written a book you've loved reading?

I love Amanda Bonilla, Kristen Callihan and Darynda Jones. All wonderful authors with excellent books. There are many books that inspire me, but none I wish I’d written—except…maybe Harry Potter, LOL. Don’t we all wish we would’ve dreamed of a wizard named Harry? JK Rowling crafted a superb world that was universally loved by every age group. That kind of talent amazes me and is a very hard thing to achieve. She deserves all the kudos in the world.

If you had 2 hours of downtime today would you read or write?

I’d usually say write, but there have been so many good books releasing, I’d say read today. I haven’t read JR Ward in years, but I’m dying to find out how she handed things in Lover at Last. There is nothing like a good book and it’s been too long for me!

Thanks so much for hosting me today! I had fun stopping by. Hope all who read enjoy HOT BLOODED on the 23rd.
